2022 Christmas and New Year Messages

2022 ended after a year of strikes, wars, political churn, and few highlights except on the sporting front. But as Trump, Johnson and other clowns faded away, and Putin and Musk continued their efforts to take over the world, the Class of 55 took to their devices to send their greetings. Here is what they had to say, and there is a strong hint of a desire for another reunion to mark the new Carolean era

Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and a Happy, and healthy, New Year.

Martin Farrell

Not having quite retired yet – doing so tomorrow – and not having got round to doing Christmas cards, Madeleine and I send all of you our:

Best Wishes for a Very Happy Christmas and a much happier 2023 than you over there seem to have had this year.

All the very best, to all and sundry,

John Dickson

And best wishes from me also to the class of 55 – especially for peace to break out!

Greg Brooks

I echo your sentiments and good wishes to all. Peter.

Peter Ashby

Just to add my own best wishes to all for a happy and holy Christmas.

A big day tomorrow – No 2 son is getting married at Middleton Lodge [near Scotch Corner]

Mike Broadway

Time continues to fly. Thanks for nothing 2022!

But looking ahead, as we all approach quatre-vingts ans, we hope for better to come and maybe the Renaissance Committee (which met recently in Raynes Park) will organise another reunion before long!

Seasons greetings to all from the rainy Alps.

Jerry Stockbridge

Happy retirement!!

I am still working, but not that hard.

Keeps the mind active as do bridge and chess.

Happy Xmas to you all

Peter Lee

I can’t imagine so many of you not being retired yet, but I envy you, retirement is much more demanding than work.

I hope you will support the efforts of the Renuisance Committee, and ALL get together with us next year.  I’ve lost too many friends this last year or two to hang on for a round number anniversary, so suggestions please for a venue and preferred format – definitely no politics.  We can probably fix legal entry somehow for the expats.

Have a great Christmas, and Trusst that next year comes along nicely, the Sunak  the better.

Gavin Taylor

Greetings to all from snow-clad Canada!  Hope you tap into the Christmas magic!

John Jelliman

Now that Christmas has just finished, may I be the first to wish you/us all a Very Happy New Year in which we might see strong movement towards a more peaceful, climatically managed and ecologically balanced, socially just and prosperous world.
Best wishes everyone,

Brian McCarron

Having seen a number of Christmas and New Year wishes being sent from various quarters I am impressed by how many of us are still standing albeit leaning against a wall every now and then for additional stability! Long may it continue. Probably the result of a solid Jesuit education!

Best wishes to all for 2023.

Mike Barnett

Belated best wishes👍🎅

John Bergin

Good to hear from everyone. I would also like to add my best wishes for
Christmas and the New Year.

Should I be embarrassed by not also checking-in earlier? For Christmas I was
given a book ‘Can’t Be Arsed’ by Richard Wilson!
Doesn’t apply.

If there is to be a reunion in 2023, please settle the date as soon as
possible- look forward to it.

Richard Wilson

Well I am still here too…but don’t do much standing these days! Unfortunately, nothing to do with Jesuuits just genes!

Wishing you all a prosperous and happy New Year

Bernie Edwards

Seasons greetings to all.
Another reunion sounds great to me, with the arrangements as last time being fine.
Best wishes

Ken Eggleston

Maybe the leaning against a wall has something to do with the imbibing of too much wine? Another part of the Jesuit education?
Happy new year to all. If there is a reunion perhaps a venue should be selected with various disabilities in mind. Easy access, plentiful toilets and a number of walls.

Mike Bird

Happy New Year

60 years since most 55ers left the College.

No loss in Class of 55 database numbers in 2022 that I am aware of.  Possibly one newcomer.  Kevin McDonough who I bumped into as he ran his daily 5 or 10km in SW20

John Simmonds

One of my neighbours has taken down their decorations so I have realised that Christmas must have arrived early this year.

A reunion soonest seems a good idea. We can then start praying that there will not be any rail strike, change of government or whatever in the year ahead to spoil the event.

My regards to all – I never knew that there are so many ’55ers around (I arrived in Syntax).

For the record: the Lourdes film was taken in August 1964. Note the one-time cabinet minister in shorts by the Lac de Gaube. To his credit, (Barron) John Patton fell out of favour with Mrs Thatcher for being ‘too wet’.
