2023 Reunion Dinner

Fifteen survivors made it to the OWSA ground in Raynes Park by coming from the US, Malta, France, and many points around the UK. A further half dozen could not make it for a variety of reasons, including two who were coming until they were told that their families had organised a “surprise” for a significant birthday at the same time. Had they all made it, it would have been supported by nearly a third of the intake which was quite impressive.

After a few drinks and wallowing in a slide show of old pictures from the schooldays, the meal got underway with Greg Brooks singing grace in Latin. This was followed by four delicious courses from Chef Amal and his team. After dinner a number of interesting and moving comments were made by Peter Lee, Richard Wilson, Mike Barnett, Kevin Heffernan, Gavin Taylor, John Simmonds and Haro Hopfl. We then remembered those who have passd away, and finally the group was entertained by the Holy Moses Choir on the big screen “singing” the school song. A few more drinks and it was time to go as the carers queued in the darkness to collect their clients.

There was a smaller second reunion in Raynes Park the following lunchtime where it was agreed that the event had been very successful and should definitely not be “the last supper”.

During his talk, Peter Lee had mentioned that he had starred in a Youtube video in which he had taken on an eight year chess prodigy at the Athenaeum Club. It is a great film and and the result is a surprise!

Guys

Since John Dickson was unable to join us last month, I went to visit him and Madeleine in Oradour-sur-Glane, Haute~Vienne, France over the weekend just gone.

The cat belongs to John and Madeleine’s daughter Zara (who took the photo) and her family.

Best to all – Greg Brooks
